| Overview: | | | The Black Business Investment Fund (BBIF) is a 501c3 CDFI certified lending institution that specializes in aiding minority business owners in building their management capacity and in accessing capital. The BBIF was founded through the Florida Small and Minority Business Act of 1985; state statue 288.7. BBIF is one of eight (8) strategically placed investment corporations in Florida. The other corporations are located in: Tampa/St. Petersburg, Jacksonville, Tallahassee, Palm Beach, Miami, Daytona and Fort Lauderdale. Since then the BBIF has served Central Florida\'s business community for sixteen years through the provision of direct loans, loan guarantees, technical assistance, and advocacy. In order to do this, BBIF has partnered with local and regional contracting organizations, technical assistance providers, and financial institutions. The BBIF is a partnership with diverse representation from both the public and private sectors. The organization provides for representatives from participating financial institutions to serve along with community leaders and business owners on governing committees. Business owners ensure that the management policies align with small business needs. Financial participants bring considerable expertise, and add invaluable experience in commercial lending, investment management and risk management to the organization. Community representatives ensure that fund initiatives are aligned with overall community economic development strategies. | | | | History: | | | | The Black Business Investment Fund (BBIF) of Central Florida was created out of the "Florida Small and Minority Business Act of 1985." It was recognized that locally owned small and minority businesses contribute to the overall welfare of the Florida economy. BBIF is one of eight (8) strategically placed investment corporations in Florida. The organization is primarily interested in projects and activities that have a community development, business investment, charitable, or educational focus, including but not limited to the following: - To promote and obtain contributions by financial institutions and others to create a capital fund for business loans and investments
- To foster opportunities for businesses which will develop job opportunities for job seekers
- To assist in the establishment of training and educational programs which will assist in preparing business plans, setting up marketing, management, and accounting systems, maximizing productivity and raising capital and loan funds for business development
- To act as a business investment corporation providing direct loans, guarantees, subordinated debt, equity and other capital products
- To be an advocate for small business development and growth
